On Sunday June 13, 2010 the 34th annual Locust Street Festival will be taking place in Milwaukee’s River West neighborhood. The festival kicks off at 11:30 am sharp for the beer run/walk (entry form) and finishes with a gathering on the streets of Locust for all to enjoy. In support of the community and the event Hide House Lofts will be there to share in the fun. Mention that you saw this post on the website and get a rare Hide House Lofts pint glass!

UW-Milwaukee Grad Students Design Wall for Hide House Lofts

While the Hide House Lofts were being planned there were thoughts and ideas of creating this unique wall within the leasing office to hold the projects feature cards and floor plans. When UW-Milwaukee graduate student James Lewis showed up for an internship at General Capital the idea became all to real. James and his classmates designed this crazy and unique wall for the Hide House Lofts leasing office as a project for one of their classes. The wall consists of more than 1,200 pieces of plastic and because of it’s complexity was designed with computer software and laser cut. Bay View Hide House Community Garden

On May 1st 2010 Melissa, Victory Garden Initiative, and BVNA launched the Bay View Hide House community gardens.

Affordable Housing Community

What is Affordable Housing?

Hide House Lofts is being financed with affordable housing tax credits. The Section 42 program has been in place since the late 1980’s as a way to encourage private developers to build high-quality affordable housing communities. Developers receive attractive financing for their projects in exchange for long term agreements to maintain affordable rents. The financial assistance we received to build the Hide House Lofts was used to reduce the overall cost of our project, allowing us to charge lower rents to tenants who qualify under WHEDA’s program. Other than requiring income qualification, Hide House Lofts functions like any other “market rate” apartment community — tenants must pay their own rent and utilities.

Affordability Without Compromising Quality

A potential resident’s income is verified and measured against the Milwaukee County median income for various household sizes. To qualify, an applicant must earn less than the maximum income allowed in each income category, e.g. 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% of County Median Income. A variety of units are available in each income category. Specific qualification guidelines must be followed, so please schedule an appointment with our leasing agent to go over the specifics of the program.
